The Teamsters Joint Council No. 25 Women’s Committee is excited to announce their 15-year celebration on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at IUOE Local Union 150’s Premier Banquet Hall in Countryside, Illinois.

Since 2009, the Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee has brought together working Teamster Women from various industries to strengthen communication, address their issues and concerns and to help build solidarity within the Teamster Organization.

"The core mission of the Women's Committee is to empower Teamster Women and to encourage them to be leaders within the Teamster organization, at their workplace as well as their communities", said President Tracy Reed. "Enabling women to move into leadership roles begins with creating opportunities for growth and development. I am the perfect example of that.”  Elected as Recording Secretary in 2016, Secretary Treasurer in 2018 and now serving her second term as President, President Reed expounds on how the committee has helped her grow. “The women’s committee has helped me grow professionally and taught me invaluable leadership skills. I was elected as trustee of the Cook County Pension Fund, which has a fund size of over fourteen billion dollars with 18,000 active members and 19,000 annuitants. The leadership qualities that I learned for the Women’s committee gave me the courage to run for this prominent position, and I am eternally grateful.” 

This is the second year as Recording Secretary for Local 710, April Olechny. “As women, we often get caught up in our busy lives. However, it is essential to remember the importance of taking time for us. That is what I love about the Women’s Committee. It helps us realize that we are not alone in our struggles and, in turn, helps us feel more confident and motivated to overcome obstacles." 

Lisa Beecher from Local 142 out of Gary, Indiana is a founding member of the committee. “It has been a pleasure being a part of this committee. Celebrating diversity among women and supporting women by linking them to each other is a very important part of the Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee. I am excited to see what the future holds for us in the next 15 years.” 

To date, the Teamsters Joint Council No. 25 Women’s Committee has awarded over $50,000 in scholarship funds to working Teamster women and has supported various charities.
